Arizona Senators Announce More Than $3.3 Million Donated to Five Organizations

(KYMA, KECY) – Arizona Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Mark Kelly announced that five Arizona organizations will receive $3,369,176.

A press release said this should help “strengthen the health care workforce through service delivery, mental health attention, chronic disease prevention and public health preparedness.”

The press release states that the funding was awarded through AmeriCorps’ FY2024 Public Health Continuation Funding Opportunity and will support “359 Public Health AmeriCorps members across Arizona.”

“I am proud to announce that AmeriCorps is bringing $3,369,176 to Arizona to strengthen the health care workforce and ensure Arizonans across the state have greater access to quality health care, including programs to support mental health, reduce substance abuse, combat domestic violence and promote early childhood development.”

“These investments will provide much-needed support to our state’s essential health care workers. By strengthening our public health workforce, we are improving the quality and accessibility of care for everyone in Arizona.”

Additionally, the press release states that the organizations are expected to earn $924,522.90 in Segal AmeriCorps Education Awards “to pursue higher education or repay qualified student loans” upon successful completion of their service.

    • Value of the Education Award: $73,876.05
  • AZ Serve of Prescott College Inc.: Public Health Corps.
    • Grant funding: $486,000
    • Value of the teaching award: $133,100
  • Northern Arizona University
    • Grant Funding: $663,071
    • Value of the Education Award: $181,621.20
