New Red Bull driver development as Helmut Marko announces ‘reshuffle of cards’

Red Bull senior advisor Helmut Marko has hinted at a “reshuffling of the cards” at their teams for next season despite the recent commitment to their drivers.

There were already many rumours that Sergio Perez would jeopardise his Red Bull seat during the summer break. On Monday, Christian Horner announced that he would remain with the team. On Tuesday, it was also announced that Daniel Ricciardo would remain with VCARB until the end of the season.

In an announcement made at the team’s base in Milton Keynes, the team boss confirmed that Perez would remain at Red Bull, while PlanetF1.com has also learned that Ricciardo will remain at their sister team for the remainder of the season – despite the team having an option on reserve driver Liam Lawson for his services for 2025 at either team, which PlanetF1.com understands expires in September.

“Checo remains a Red Bull Racing driver, despite all the speculation lately,” said Horner.

“We look forward to seeing him perform at circuits where he has previously performed well after the summer break.”

Now, however, Marko has hinted that the line-ups of their two teams could change for next season, but he remained coy on details. He told German publication F1-Insider when discussing their line-ups: “The cards will be reshuffled for 2025.”

As for this season, Red Bull’s senior advisor confirmed Horner’s message about both teams’ lineups, adding: “Perez is staying. We want him back to his old form. Ricciardo is staying too. Nothing will change.”

Horner admitted Perez had been in “difficult” form in the most recent period of the season, with the Belgian Grand Prix heralding a front-row start before dropping to eighth on the road, later moving up a place after George Russell was disqualified.

With Formula 1 on hold this summer, Red Bull’s team boss is keen to take some time to discuss what can be improved.

“Checo has struggled the last few races,” Horner told media including PlanetF1.com at Spa. “What’s so confusing for us is that the season started so well for him and then it went downhill.

“He did a great job, super good in qualifying. We need to work through and understand the issues in the race.

“We have the time to do that, to analyze and work with him.”
